Originator Certification Description

What We Are

The Originator Certification is only given to products that introduce a truly original idea or create a completely new type of product in the market..

These products are characterised by:

  • Substantial New Utility: Introducing significant, unprecedented functionality to the marketplace.

  • Series Production: Manufactured in series and in sufficient quantities to ensure broad availability.

What We Are Not

The Originator Certification is not obtainable by adding small improvements or minor enhancements to existing product concepts. It is reserved for “The Originator” of a groundbreaking concept.

Specifically:

  • Not Incremental Improvements: The certification is not awarded for small changes or refinements of existing products. Only an “Original Concept” with substantial new utility qualifies.

  • Not Prototypes: Prototypes available for viewing or commentary do not qualify. However, products in the process of launching with series production may be considered.

  • Not Redesigns: Innovative designs applied to existing product categories, while admirable, do not meet the criteria for Originator status.

Example

Even if an exercise bike has a very creative and impressive design, it isn’t considered an Originator because it’s still based on an existing type of product, not something completely new.
